Chanalyzer v3.1 (for Wi-Spy 2.4x only)

Chanalyzer turns data collected from the Wi-Spy 2.4x into highly interactive charts and graphs, allowing users to actually "visualize" their wireless landscape. Together, Wi-Spy 2.4x and Chanalyzer 3.1 enable both business and home users to visualize, troubleshoot, and optimize their Wi-Fi (wireless fidelity) networks.
With Chanalyzer 3.1 you don't need to waste your time watching real-time RF activity to troubleshoot. Chanalyzer records the data for quick viewing and analysis. You can then use Chanalyzer recordings to visually explain to your customers how you will optimize their wireless network. Troubleshoot your wireless networks without leaving your desk. Just install our new Recon application, which is a simple Wi-Spy 2.4x data server and then connect to it remotely from anywhere with Chanalyzer 3.1.
Features
- Wi-Fi Integration: Information such as SSID, Channel and dBm are overlayed on the 2.4 GHz data. (This does not use the Wi-Spy 2.4x. It uses the computer WiFi card)
- Networked Wi-Spy: Connect to a Wi-Spy through an IP address. (See Recon for Wi-Spy)
- Signature Identification - A new "Signatures" sidebar makes it easy to match the shape appearing in your graph to the device signature (from the growing Signatures Library) - so you can identify the interference. Some included shapes are 802.11b. 802.11g, 802.11n, microwave, cordless phone, and even a baby monitor.
- Data Inspector - Shows frequency, amplitude, time, and associated data of any point in any view. This means you can drill down into specific inteference instances by simply rolling your mouse over the data.
- Time Controls - You can select any arbitrary time length to be in view. This offers greater clarity over your data and makes it easier to pick out interfering devices.
- Embedded Notes - Textual information can now be added to any recording by embedding user notes. This is useful when collaborating with others during troubleshooting or creating more intelligent archives to improve a company's knowledge base. Double-clicking a note will actually jump to that point in time on its recording.
- Recordings Playback - Users have greater control over the speed of playback, fast forwarding or rewinding recordings up to 50x speed, as well as the ability to drag playback to any arbitrary point on a recording.
- Recordings Cropping: Users can crop recordings visually, making it easier to isolate specific data or timeframes to analyze at a later time.
- Planar View — Plot current data as it moves against maximum and average data representations. A familiar view that's still very useful.
- Topographic View — Visualize device and interference signatures.
- Spectral View — See signal strength as it marches through time.
- Dynamic Play-thru — Move through long recordings with ease. With our new controls, you can stop, play, rewind, and fast-forward live and recorded data.
- Multiple X-axis Labels — Frequency labels are a must, but the Wi-Fi™ and Zigbee™ channel labels are the kind of attention to detail you expect from us.
- Variable Timeframes — Whether you want to get the big-picture or zoom down into the finer details of your recording, it's easy with our slider controls.

The software is a replacement for NetStumbler that works on Windows Vista and Windows XP. It also uses the Wi-Spy hardware to plot SSID signal intensity. A real plus over the current NetStumbler!

Chanalyzer v2.1

The original Wi-Spy software was good, but during the past year we have received numerous emails with feature requests and suggestions from the wonderful community of Wi-Spy users. The new and improved Chanalyzer 2.1 incorporates many of these suggestions in a completely redesigned interface that presents a more clear and concise view of your wireless landscape.
Chanalyzer 2.1 unified the time frame displayed by each view into a single time frame. Now each view is literally a different view of the same data (previously each view had a separate time frame). The ability to pause, rewind, and replay live data was also added. The requirement to decide to record the data can now be made after the data is collected, and recordings can be cropped at any start and end times. Chanalyzer 2.1 also facilitiates collaboration by adding "Upload to Library" and "Send to Friend" buttons to share recordings via email.
Chanalyzer 2.1 also added support for Wi-Spy 2.4x, which has increased frequency and amplitude resolution.
Features
- Data, Average, and Maximum Tracing
- Frequency / Amplitude Marker
- Frequency / Wi-Fi / Zigbee Channel Labels
- Save, or Copy Image to Clipboard
- Record and Play-back Traces
- Spectral, Topographic, and Planar Views
- Automatic recording of session data
- Ability to pause and FF/Rewind data on the fly

Chanalyzer v2.0

With the 2.0 release the Wi-Spy software was renamed to Chanalyzer to avoid confusion with the Wi-Spy hardware.
Chanalyzer 2.0 was a complete redesign of the software. The Spectral View could now adjust time frames without clearing the display, and the markers in Planar View were enhanced to show the current, average, and maximum amplitudes at the selected frequency. The Topographic View was also introduced which aids in identifying the signature of various device types. Also, all the views could be displayed simultaneously (each view can be hidden by collapsing its control panel).
Same features as the Chanalyzer v2.1, however it is only compatible with the original Wi-Spy hardware. It will not work with the newer Wi-Spy 2.4x. The reason it is kept up because it presents a better looking plot for the original hardware, although it lacks certain software features compared to Chanalyzer v2.1.

Wi-Spy v1.2

Wi-Spy 1.0 started with the typical spectrum analyzer view (a.k.a Planar View) showing the max hold, average, and current traces. It allowed creating and playing back recordings. Wi-Spy 1.2 added a Spectral View with a button to toggle between Planar and Spectral Views. The Spectral View could change time frames, but cleared itself each time the time frame was changed.

Third-party applications
We created an amazing spectrum analyzer when we invented Wi-Spy — and then we crafted world-class software to make it easy to use, right out of the box. But we can't be everything to everyone... so we left the platform open to encourage innovation.
Below are a few of the great applications that resulted:
- Spectrum Tools — Mike Kershaw, author of Kismet, has developed an open source version of the Wi-Spy software that runs on Linux, BSD, and Mac OS X. This application has most of the features of the original Wi-Spy software for Windows. This software is open source and uses the GTK library.
- EaKiu — David Cook from Cookware, Inc. has written a very nifty Mac OS X application for Wi-Spy that uses OpenGL to provide interactive 3-D displays as well as the standard spectrum analyzer and spectrogram views.
- VisiWave — VisiWave Site Survey is an advanced site survey tool that provides data collection and visualization capabilities not found in any other existing product. The VisiWave Site Survey product takes advantage of advanced location tracking technology and combines that with high powered data visualization and reporting capabilities to create a complete wireless LAN site surveying solution.
