Chanalyzer 5 Device Finder + Direction Antenna
Overview
Don't let unknown devices drag your network down. If the stock Wi-Spy antenna is a lantern, our in-house designed Device Finder antenna is a flashlight. With the Device Finder directional antenna, you can track down any source of interference in the 2.4 GHz band. The Device Finder feature is only available in Chanalyzer Pro. Simply drag and select a frequency range, select the Device Finder feature, and follow the amplitude history line -- the higher it goes, the closer you are!
Details
The Device Finder is an antenna with a 7dBi gain over a 60 degree beam width. It is designed to help you track noise sources by focusing the bandwidth scan to what is in front of the antenna.
The antenna works by amplifying signals directly in front of it, while attenuating all other signals. You can see this in the Azimuth horizontal plot below. For example, signals to the left and right of the antenna (90 degrees from the centre) will experience an approximate -11dBi gain (ie. they will be attenuated by 11dBi). While this is a fairly good attenuation, it is not "perfect". You will still get some small amounts of side leakage showing up. In addition, the back lobe that you see in the plot will be partially mitigated by the laptop screen that you mount the antenna on.
